well my phones manual said i can soft reset my treo by removing the battery putting it back then by holding up button till the preloader fills up.. -but does this sw really work?

I've downloaded, installed, and tried SOFT RESET. It works fine but would someone tell me what's its' use . I only need a soft reset when my Palm is locked up ie: ERROR: FATAL ALERT. When that happens one can't navigate to the Soft Reset app and has to use a stylus in the hole in the back of the unit. Tod
